Living as a Digital Nomad in Kathmandu

I’m a digital nomad in Kathmandu. After spending many years programming in New York, I decided to take a chance and switch things up by moving abroad and working remotely. Being in Kathmandu has been an eye-opening experience; the culture, food, and city life are all unique and exciting. That being said, it’s not without its challenges – the internet isn’t always what you want to be and getting used to such a different lifestyle was daunting at first! Still, if you’re open-minded and adventurous, living abroad can be incredibly rewarding; I’m grateful that I’ve been able to use my lifestyle to explore this amazing part of the world.

Living as a digital nomad in Kathmandu has been an incredible experience. The city is steeped in culture and history, where one can explore the ancient temples, the bustling markets and colorful alleys of Thamel. The food is delicious with plenty of vegan, vegetarian and organic options to choose from. Plus it’s incredibly affordable for a nomad on-the-go; I regularly get by on around $500 per month. Internet connection is reliable and local transportation easy to navigate. It’s also very safe with friendly locals who are eager to help out visitors at any time of day or night. Overall, Kathmandu has been an amazing place to call home for the past six months — full of energy, beauty, diversity and adventure!
