Rafting at Bhotekoshi

Rafting at Bhotekoshi is something you wouldn’t want to miss out on, if you are looking into adventure sports in Nepal. Located in the Eastern part of Nepal, Bhotekoshi is an ideal spot for a weekend getaway from Kathmandu, the capital city. The rapids and gorges along the Bhote Koshi River are a challenge even for experienced rafters, who can usually be spotted amongst the throngs of amateur daredevils!

Our camping site was located along a steady grade of rapid, and our tents were pitched right on the sandy banks of the Bhote Koshi. The clean air and clear skies of the autumn darkness had set the ideal backdrop for our river experience.

On the day of the expedition, we awoke to the chill morning breeze and took some time to shed the warmth of our sleeping bags. The journey started early, with a lengthy safety briefing and a quick meal of eggs and bread. We then strapped on our torrent suits, settled into our rafts, and set out on the turbulent river.

Rafting at Bhotekoshi, Flowing with and against

The rapids on the Bhote Koshi came one after the other with increasing difficulty. It was sheer delight as every single rapid presented its unique challenges – it was a never-ending battle of human versus nature!

I went through a rollercoaster of emotions as the adrenaline rushed through my veins. As I paddled harder, I felt my strength draining away, but it was all worth it in the end. The climax of the experience was when we were shooting the big rapids. It felt like we were going to be flushed off the raft into danger but our safety guide held on tight and soon we were flying through a raging cascade!

Our group emerged victorious at the end of the rafting experience, our eyes wide with awe as we witnessed the beauty of the experience. Our clothes were damp and our faces were aching from the constant smiles, but it was all worth it.

Experiencing rafting at Bhotekoshi has left me wanting more. I am grateful to have experienced this thrilling ride and I cannot wait to go back to the Bhote Koshi River again.
